Roswell, NM at a Glance
Widely known as the site of a supposed 1940s UFO crash, the city of Roswell has
cleverly developed a number of alien-related sites, tours and museums that attract
visitors interested in the paranormal. One of the city's biggest draws is the
International
UFO Museum and Research Center, which collects information on possible alien
sightings from all over the world. This organization has helped establish the
Roswell
UFO Festival, which occurs over the Independence Day weekend in July. For
those wanting more alien treks, the well-known Hangar 84 occasionally allows tours
through limited parts of its facility, which once housed the wreckage from the
questioned crash. After seeing these facilities, there are plenty of natural areas
to visit. New Mexico's first state park was established near Roswell—the Bottomless
Lakes—where visitors can go swimming, hiking, camping, fishing, boating and
picnicking. After a day of activities, guests can relax by seeing a performance
by the Roswell
Symphony Orchestra or the Roswell
Community Little Theatre.
